February 2009

Like it's namesake clouds in the grip of the wind, the first iteration of the Cumulus Music Festival has come and gone. And just as those clouds will return when the weather dictates it, so will the festival. Not when weather dictates it. When we do. The weather's a powerful thing, but it can't really book a show or anything. Or if it can, it doesn't seem to. But we can. And seem to. So as this year's festival was a success, we're planning on another. All of you who came to and/or participated were the reason for that success. It was three fantastic (and exhausting) days working and hanging out with all the bands, venues and fans. So big thanks to you all.

The festival's over, but we'll be adding some content here showcasing what went down. I'll list it here as it comes.

And consider this a rallying cry. We want to know who you'd like to see perform next time around, even if it's your own band. Check the "contact" page for info on emailing us.

About Cumulus

A road trip is a great time to think and chat. On one such trip, it was this thinking and chatting between the members of Seattle band The Luna Moth that sparked what became the Cumulus Music Festival. The idea was simply to have a fest that represented and showcased the sort of music they played and bands they played with.

The grey, the chill, and the rain that Seattle is known for is in full swing in winter, and seemed an apropos backdrop for the kind of music that was going to be represented at this festival. The name of the large clouds that signal the grey, the chill, and the rain seemed an apropos name for the kind of festival it was going to be.

And that was it. The Cumulus Music Festival was born.
